MONKEES DVDs REVIEW
By Kevin Findlay

The Monkees "Hey, Hey We're the Monkees" DVD - released in Holland, NTSC, All Region coding, Cat No 940026, Immortal. Nice Pic of Monkees having tea from "The Monkees Ride Again" AKA "Leave the Driving to Us" episode, from second season. Back cover has nice liner notes and pic of Monkees performing "What Am I Doing Hanging Round" from TV show, and pic from "Just Us". Comes complete with an 18 page transcript of the show, superb item. This special was originally shown on Channel 4 and VH1.

The Monkees Limited Edition Two DVD Discs Set "Video Hits" - Colgems Home Video Cat No 36572. This is an ultra rare item and is almost impossible to obtain. This item has "Video Hits" from the TV show but the songs are taken from CDs, so the quality is superb. There is a pic of a single or LP cover with title and writer credits before the songs. Also Kool Aid commercials, TV music bridge, We'll Be Back in a Minute, NBC Promo Bumper commericals and loads of Kelloggs Rice Krispies commercials. This is a superb item that looks like it will be the rarity of 2003. I don't know who put this out not Rhino, apart from the covers, Colgems Home Video and Cat No. There is also another limited edition two DVD set titled "Video Collection" - different cover and the writing on front is in Japanese, although the songs etc are exactly the same and in the same order. This item includes closing theme from TV Show sung in Italian.

There are also clips from "Monkees in Paris" episode although the music played, in all instances, is from the CDs so the sound quality is superb. If anyone comes across any of these items "Video Hits" or "Video Collection" then don't hesitate - buy it.

An extra note from Kevin:

Any fans who would like a copy of Video Hits DVD - it may be possible to obtain a copy from
e-mail: directcd@aol.com. If they can obtain a copy for you, the price will be $39.99 plus $4 for postage. Expect to pay around £30 with the exchange rate, but it is well worth it. The DVD is NTSC format & Multi-region. It is near impossible to obtain a DVD player Multi-region on the High St. The only place I know of is Sevenoakes Stores, best to obtain a copy of 'What HI FI' from your local magazine store they have stores who sell Multi-region DVDs try Richer Sounds or Amazon.com or .uk and type in DVD players. I obtained a Toshiba 220 for £125 including postage, which retails for £180 bought through a store on Amazon. If you already own a DVD it may be possible to upgrade it to MULTI although this can cost around £45 to £50 so it would be better to buy new. A good source for multi DVD discs is www.futureent.com or www.musicdvdworld.com. Any fans who would like a copy of the Monkees DVD complete show originally only part of the show was put out on DVD you must log on to www.kingbuiscuit.com and order it with your credit card they will require a minimum of 500 orders before they will press a limited release of 1000. On the subject of DVDs, any fans who purchase a copy of Elephant parts DVD from Nez's site Video Ranch (www.videoranch.com)

On Dec 22 1969 Davy appeared as a guest on ABC's Music Scene in the US. He sang a song titled Together, and this is available on MUSIC SCENE Video/DVD. There are 8 volumes available on video, individually or as part of two box sets: Vol 1 to 4 & Vol 5 to 8. Also on DVD, Music Scene Vol 1 - has
Vol 1 to 4, and Music Scene Vol 2 - has 'Best of 69 to 70', Vol 5 to 8. So Music Scene Vol 2 'Best of 69 to 70' features Davy singing 'Together'. Both DVDs have 4 hours of music as each show is 1 hr long. For more details go to www.mpihomevideo.com and type in 'Music Scene'. The DVDs are Region 1 and videos are NTSC format.
