Ode to the Monkees
By Kelly Dewis

I would like if I may to take a few minutes of your time, to tell you about four people who've had a huge effect on my life although I've never met them. These people are the Monkees. Over the last two years I have suffered from severe depression. This was due to my mother becoming increasingly ill and even suicidal. Just when I thought I couldn't go on I was shopping when I came across a CD of the Monkees. As I'd watched the Monkees as a child and always loved Daydream Believer I took the plunge and bought the CD. As the music poured from the stereo the sun began to shine. Life was suddenly worth living. I began to hum the tunes and then started to collect the videos of the show. They seem as fresh now as they did when I was a child.

I have now moved out of home after realising that there was nothing more I could do for my Mum as she won't help herself. I am surviving on my own but when things get bad I still sink into the madness of the Monkees. I am now indebted to the Monkees because they gave me the courage to keep on fighting. They've helped me to overcome painful barriers and now I am so much better and able to smile. Even when I feel really down I just put on my headphones and let everything drift away.

Thank you Davy, Micky, Mike and Peter. May I some day get the chance to meet you and thank you in person.

Love always, Kelly.
