PICKWICK
In 1965, just prior to 'The
Monkees', and fresh from his success in 'Oliver', Davy played the
character of Sam Weller in a new musical called 'Pickwick'.
Like Oliver, the musical was based on another of Charles Dickens' books
'The Pickwick Papers'.

The show had transferred
from London where it originally opened in 1963 (without Davy in the
cast). Harry Seacombe, the much loved British comedian who's most
famous for his work on the radio show 'The Goons', played Pickwick, and
transferred to the US to reprise his role in the show, alongside
Davy. One of the show's most popular songs, 'If I Ruled the World',
became one of Harry's 'theme songs', that stayed with him throughout his
career.
